Angela Evelyn Bassett, an American actor, is well-known for her performance in films and television in the latter half of the 1980s. The actress has won numerous honors, such as two Golden Globe Awards, and sixteen NAACP Image Awards. She is known for her roles in film and television since the late 1980s she has received various accolades including two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was born in Winston-Salem North Carolina, raised by an Aunt and Uncle in New York New York. Her mother split with her father at approximately five. Bassett and her younger sister then moved from the city of St. Petersburg Florida with their mother. Bassett decided to be an actress after she saw the play Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. After graduating from Yale University New Haven Connecticut in the year 1980, she earned an undergraduate degree of African American Studies, she continued to pursue a Master's Degree (1983) at the Yale School of Drama. At Yale she met Courtney B. Vance a fellow actor and the two got married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Bachelor of Arts (Afro-American Studies) in the year 1980.
